OK so a few people have been subtlety pointing out that I haven’t updated my blog with any Toronto info. Unfortunately there hasn’t been much to report due to work being very hard to come by…something about a worldwide economic recession or something, very very draining so we won’t dwell on that.
At the mo I’m living in a pretty cool flat in The Annex, central Toronto on the 11th floor so it’s got pretty cool views.
For now, that’s about all I’ve got to say about that.
On the other hand it’s getting close to my favourite time of year. Up here some people might thing I’m talking about spring, but don’t know how much of a F1 freak I am...YET! So the standard if you don’t care about F1, bye bye.
Firstly KERS, I think it’s a great idea not only to keep F1 relevant to today’s motor industry but also to keep F1 where it has to be, at the top of the motorsport technology ladder. I’m not a fan of the systems being standardised next year as I think this is one of the best areas where F1 competition could really push the technology in useful ways. Also with this I really, really hope Williams' idea going flywheel as opposed to capacitor for energy storage pays off…unlike their previous ideas about ironing board & walrus noses.
Now for the new bodies, yes they look bloody ugly when you first look at them, but over summer testing I’ve gotten used to them & if along with the return of slick tyres they encourage more overtaking they can make bodies out of stale bread for all I care.
The other main change for this year is the points system, with the champion winner being decided by wins instead of points. I see what they were trying to do but WHAT THE??? I was 50/50 about the whole medal idea but this new idea just doesn’t seem to have been thought through at all, I much preferred the FOTA scoring system proposition. I hope it only stays for this year but I think it will be around for 2-3 years at least…The FIA is stubborn that way plus I get the feeling it may become the latest political football between Ecclestone, FOTA & the FIA.
Now onto the teams
Brawn GP…WOW! I was expecting Honda to show some improvement this year (wouldn’t be hard after last year) with one of the most amazing talents in F1 now at the helm – Not Button, Ross Brawn. Then Honda wimped out late last year leaving the team high & dry most of the winter until the big man himself stepped up to the plate to buy the team. With all that uncertainty it was great to see BGP doing so well when they finally hit the track. Expecting them to be strong also rans this year which will put them directly up against my boys but I still wish them all the best.
Speaking of my lads at Williams, they seem to be doing fairly well in testing, topping the Spanish time sheets. But we all know not to trust testing; they could have just been doing an uba light run to please the sponsors. As I said before I’m expecting them to be at the top of the middle pack, which I think will be huge this year but I don’t know how long our finances will allow us to stay there.
So who’s going to win? I would love Massa to take the championship & he has the car to do it…only 1 problem, Kimi. The dude had a horrible year last year but I’m not expecting that to continue so the safest money would be on him. McLaren have been having issues in testing but they are too good for those issues to affect them for more than a race or 3. And no I’m not writing off BMW or Red Bull either.
So basically it’s all up in the air. It doesn’t matter how many timesheets, articles or pod casts you review we don’t know diddly squat until next Friday when the cars hit the track in Melbourne...Owww Mama!!!
